About the museum

Museum Prinsenhof Delft_zaal 15

At the Museum Prinsenhof Delft, we tell stories on the basis of 3 themes essential to Delft: William the Silent, Delftware and Delft Masters. Besides these, the museum inspires with its temporary exhibitions, presentations and with projects like the Delft Perspective. We want all visitors to feel recognized, acknowledged and welcome.

The museum is a former monastery and was used as the court of William the Silent. It is housed in one of the Cultural Heritage Agency’s top 100 listed buildings.

Who we are

The Museum Prinsenhof Delft is a narrating museum where history is almost tangible. Think, for example, of the bullet holes in the wall at the spot where William the Silent was murdered. We focus on the interaction between Delft and the rest of the world. The museum shows that history is also relevant to today.

Our vision

The world today is constantly in motion and undergoing change. Art, culture and history help us to interpret the world around us and to understand it. Delft was and is an open, compact, recognizable city, with resolute people and an international reputation for innovation. The fascinating and permanent interaction between Delft and the world is the starting point for programming at the Museum Prinsenhof Delft.

Our mission

The Museum Prinsenhof Delft is a museum of national stature. It shares, enriches and preserves its extraordinary Delft collection with the most diverse public possible. Everyone has to feel welcome here. From our monumental monastery, we invite our (inter)national visitors and those from Delft to travel through 5 centuries of Delft art and history, and discover the – open and inquisitive – Delft perspective on the world.

Our museum from 2027 – looking ahead

In the coming years, we are going to refurbish. This will enable us to continue to tell our extraordinary stories to future generations.

Imagine visiting the museum on a sunny day in the spring of 2027. Walking across the Prinsenhof Courtyard in full bloom, you arrive at the inviting, brand new entrance. Inside, you find an accessible and sustainable museum. It has an attractive museum café, a museum shop, a lift and Studio Prinsenhof, where young and old together, learn and discover. All rooms are radiant with the daylight coming in through large windows, falling on the permanent collection and the exhibitions. We are literally opening the shutters.

You are very welcome

The Museum Prinsenhof Delft aims to inspire in you a life-long love of art and history. Everyone in the Netherlands really ought to see the bullet holes in the wall, at least once. Young and old. With a school group or on their own. The invitation stands, as far as we are concerned. For life.
