From 18 October 2024 until 5 January 2025, the Museum Prinsenhof Delft is pulling out all the stops with its exhibition The ArtParade. Surprising – Colourful – Contemporary. Never before have we exhibited such a comprehensive selection of works of art by established and emerging artists with a special connection to Delft. In the festively designed exhibition, 38 large installations, objects, paintings and drawings give a glimpse of the new visual power the city generates. The ArtParade scatters the works like confetti over the museum’s galleries and outside them, with surprise following surprise. This final exhibition, preceding the museum’s temporary closing for a major refurbishment, is a wonderful prelude to the ‘new’ museum, where there will be more room for art from the 20th and 21st centuries.
Nearly half of the works of art are from our own collection and have not been shown for a long time. Abstract paintings by, among others, Jaap van den Ende, Bram Zwartjens, Chris Dagradi, Robert Smit and Steven van der Kruit. Supplemented with contemporary (semi-) figurative works ranging from Hanny Reneman’s to Erik Pape’s. The ArtParade will put on display a wide variety of artistic disciplines, materials and techniques. From photographs by Willem van den Hoed and Coen de Jong to a work of art in enamelled metal by Gracia Khouw and a strandbeest made of PVC pipes by Theo Jansen. And videos, charcoal drawings, installations, textiles and a tapestry of natural materials, too.
Specific Commissions
Besides the work of established artists, the exhibition shows the work of budding talent. Delft University of Technology student Lars Geluk (Harderwijk, 2000) and Eugenie Boon (Willemstad, 1995) have created new work especially for The ArtParade. At the intersection of art, science and technology, Geluk has made a metres-high diptych; a colourful, hyper-technological interpretation of stained-glass windows. Boon responds to the history of slavery shared by Delft and Curaçao with an impressive installation. Marije Vermeulen (Delft, 1976) also received a commission for a new work of art. She made a colourful triptych connecting all exhibition galleries with a graphic ArtParade ribbon.

Connection with Delft and the Museum
Connection with Delft and the Museum
By taking a fresh look at old connections and drawing in new artists, the museum intends to broaden and strengthen its Delft network. ‘Delft’ in the broad sense of the word: artists who have a connection with Delft or who have a Delft Perspective. By widening our view, based on themes and developments in society, the Museum Prinsenhof Delft wants to get a picture of contemporary art that aligns with our vision and collection. The ArtParade is a first step in this direction.
